As we "dress our kids for success", can we make a link to written affirmations and educational achievement?
Entry for July 29, 2006-What it is all about

I get a lot of questions and comments on what HBCU kidz is all about.

In a nutshell, here is what I believe. I have two lovely daughters.   I love them, and I care about their future. I truly believe what is written in Psalms 92: 12-14.  I pray daily that my munchkins are granted a productive life similar to that of a cherished tree ... have strong roots, bear delicious fruit, provide a refuge for the needy and ultimately be fashioned into something valuable that helps build up a society. I recognize that how realistic this dream is lies in what steps I take today to prepare the soil and plant the seeds.  As my daughters grow up, I would love for them to look around and see that the world if full of good people.   I want them to know that despite the media images that create a fear and distrust of people of color, that there are good, decent and trustworthy people who have positive self-esteem and set very high expectations for themselves. I realize that there are numerous groups, societies and clubs that I could affiliate with that could make this a doable feat. I also realize that if each one of "us" reaches another one to spread positive and uplifting messages it could increase the odds even greater! I believe that it is time that we stop waiting for some "great and visible politician, celebrity or entertainer" to tell us what to do. I believe that we can do it one baby at a time. I believe that we need to stop talking so much and that we just need to do it. We just need to create a vision. We just need to take the necessary baby steps towards this vision each year. We just need to do it for our future...without a vision we will perish.  That is what HBCU kidz is all about.  Positive images, positive messages and positive results through proactive people.  My mom's life inspires me, and I pray that my life inspires my daughters.

Absolutely! I instill the same values & messages in my daughter. With all that is in me, I hope that we as a people begin to get infected with this mindset and prosper in far greater numbers than present day.

Amen to not wanting to wait for the next celebrity/politician to veer us in a direction -let's take the direction in our own hands! That is the only way to get anything done!

Awesome! I am not blessed with children (yet, if ever), but to see someone like you who is actively taking control of their children's futures and raising them to be a part of the greater good is an inspiration! These girls are bound for greatness with a mom like you!

Very beautiful. Your mom did a great job seeing that you have a concern for other people outside of your own family. I'm sure your daughters will be great women. Thanks for providing this link in forum post.

I can not help but wonder...does this "viision" include Blacks building our OWN nation?
