Naturally Beautiful Hair Dolls by Karen Byrd

114909_orig.jpg "It has been a goal of mines for some time to start a project where I can take dolls with straight hair and customize their hair to have ethnic styles and textures." 7706111_orig.jpg "As a young girl, I remember loving to play with my dolls...mainly with my Barbie dolls." karen_main.JPG "I thought the dolls where beautiful; but always noticed that my African American dolls did not look like me. Their features did not look like mines. And their hair certainly did not look or feel like mine! This did affect my view of what beauty was. In articles, videos and news stories such as Black Girls Want White Dolls, What a Doll Tells Us About Race, Black Doll White Doll, White and black children biased toward lighter skin & A Girl Like Me - it is apparent that this is something that affects many young people, and that there is a need for positive community change." 6668148_orig.png "The Naturally Beautiful Hair Barbie Doll project is something that I hope will help to bring a positive view of what ethnic beauty is. There is a serious need for our young girls to be able to have dolls that look like them. It is something that affects their self esteem and confidence, and how they few themselves. There have been quite a few studies done that show that African American boys and girls often think of black dolls as bad and white dolls as good. Of course, this is not something that the parent is teaching their child. So why are they getting these mixed messages about good and bad skin color, or good and bad hair? It all has to do with the images they see as they grow up. If a child is constantly looking at images, dolls, television, books and magazines - and only seeing beauty as something or someone with non-ethnic features and long, straight hair - then they are going to assume that this is what beauty is. It is something that has hurt our young people for centuries. But each day we learn that it is important to show them and teach them that their beauty is beautiful." ~ Karen Byrd Our Beauty Recognized... http://naturalhairbeauty.blogspot.com http://www.naturalbeautifulhair.com http://www.facebook.com/NaturallyBeautifulHair http://twitter.com/#!/FlyLocDiva http://www.stylishbella.com

Who's Schooling Who? Looking for the wizard behind the curtain who can answer questions on education for students, teachers and parents.

Excerpt from www.wisw.net

"There’s No Place Like Home

It is long overdue  for home and school to change their relationship.  It has been a shaky union.  Home and school must intentionally become sensitive to each other.  They must decide to actively support one another’s goals and purpose for the good of “their children.”

There was a time a note from the teacher was enough to summon a parent/guardian immediately to school.  And there once was a time a teacher knew the family and the family’s functioning level enough to offer authentic support.  In recent times both scenarios have dissolved – a bad union.

The times have changed enough that major life altering events are happening to children and neither home nor school can be counted on by the child.  Children are experiencing crisis and chaos at home.  They go from home to a school system that is broken.

Bottom of the Bucket

It is now imperative for education stakeholders to gain what is called the “new literacy.”  This “new literacy” is being aware enough to be comfortable navigating the layers that is the global economy. Up until now the public discourse is stuck on teacher’s compensation as it relates to local budgets. The “new literacy” goes beyond local municipalities and beyond conflict with unions and state.  These have been arguably more political than purely economic.

Keep in mind the goals within education include readying students for gainful employment.  Without an enlarged understanding of economics, education is at a loss being out-of-step with what, where and how prospective employment is to be found.

Reflections on Student Sampling

Start from scratch, lose the idea that education will be a benefit to big government, and ask the true parties involved what they want and deliver it!

Alvin Bess-The Objective Narrative of An Undaunted Black Male

ALB_Book_Cover_front.jpg

                            ALB_Book_Photo.jpg

Five years in the making, this autobiography is thought-out and is meant to provoke worthwhile and necessary discussion on uncomfortable subject matter. Also, this book is meant to inspire millions of shunned persons with real-life and intimate encounters. A product of the sixties, the author knows the importance of surmounting, and not bypassing, obstacles or prevailing phobias. The author knows what happened in his life. The reader knows what happened in his or her life. It is your decision to accept it and then deal with it before it consumes and defines you. It cannot be hidden by money, status, rank, employment, sex and toys. It is there always; it cannot be washed away. Believing it does not matter is the shame. This book is honest. This book spares no one. In order for it to be effective, and help someone else heal, it has to meet a deep and aggravating pain. This book is written by someone who developed a love for words. His love is so intense that he is unafraid to play with constructions or guidelines to produce his own instrumental arrangements. He is respectful of ceremony and acknowledges the general comfort received by standardization: blue notes often bend the mind–and perspective. A thorough and honest account of my life, and of my retarders and how I succeeded despite them, this book is designed to serve as a guidebook or a handbook for individuals, young and old, male or female, Black, White, Hispanic, Indian, Asian, or Native American, during their undaunted and necessary travel through the underbrush of firm selective retarders and chameleon scarecrows. It is not too late to start or resume your journey. It is not too distant to behold what you believe you have the aptitude to do. If you fail–so what! Live!

About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Born in New Haven, Connecticut on August 2, 1963, and reared in the nearby suburb of Hamden since 1969, Alvin Bess developed his severe stutter as a result of molestation around the time of kindergarten. Throughout his life, family, friends, teachers, administrators and professors had doubts about Bess's intellectual capacity and his ability to prosper. But he never doubted. In fact, Bess's own belief in the power of his mind and his deliberate determination propelled him to rise to a doctoral program in Urban Studies. Hard-working, honest & resourceful, this multi-faceted Black Man also had the foresight to develop his writing skills and a formidable comprehension of poetry and communication skills. An advocate for stutterers, Alvin Bess has written and published his own story in his own voice to enlighten and inspire those who feel that they have lost their voice. As this book represents the attainment of a challenge that he posed to himself, so should it motivate the reader to begin or resume their journey.

“A World Without Chores” by Rebecca amd Sophia Banks

NEW BOOK HELPS KIDS UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF CHORES

When eight and ten year olds Rebecca and Sophia Banks set out to answer their moms question; “What would happen if you didn’t take out the trash,” they had no idea it would turn into a whole book.

The main focus of “A World Without Chores” is to teach young children about the importance of doing chores.  With each turn of the page, kids of all ages will come to understand the importance of keeping the house clean, raking the leaves, and not littering.  As they read, they also come to understand that this is part of the greater goal—keeping our world clean.

“We also thought, it was important for kids to see that there are risks and consequences of being messy.  You might not be able to get around easy enough because of trip hazards.  Clutter can cause fire hazards, and your mom may not allow you to have company until you clean up,” said the Banks sisters.

A World Without Chores” further promotes responsibility and recycling.

The siblings are currently hard at work on their next book, “A World Without Plants.”  To purchase “A World Without Chores,” or to schedule a book signing with your organization or school, visit www.ChorePals.com.

BLACK IN TIME ENTERPRISES

BlacKInTime-SML.jpg

Hugh_3.jpg

As I begin each work day, I can look at the photographs that hang above my desk and see generations of wisdom in the face of the enslaved African, the stern, watchful eyes of  Dr. Carter G. Woodson, Frederick Douglass' imposing dignity, that moment of connection  forged by a single handshake between Malcolm and Martin, the quiet, yet resolute defiance of Rosa Parks and Jesus with the elders (all of whom look like me), sitting at the table for the last supper.

These defining images (and others) occupy an almost spiritual atmosphere from which I draw inspiration and focus on a  daily basis. I'm compelled to make proud, my African and Black American ancestors. I'm infused with their spirit and humbled by the legacy of greatness they have bequeathed to me.

As Black Americans we stand upon the shoulders of men and women whose experience in this country was unlike that any other ethnic group. They were kidnapped from their homeland, enslaved, tortured, terrorized and murdered -- all in the name of White supremacy. Yet, the strength and power of the Black spirit endured and prevailed.

It is because of my profound admiration for OUR TRIUMPHS  and  GENUINE LOVE for OUR HISTORY and THE PEOPLE IT PRODUCED, I created  the BLACK IN TIME ENTERPRISES RESOURCE ONLINE CENTER --- adding the mantra: "Celebrating Who We Are By Honoring Who We Were."

I strongly believe that Black people have a responsibility and obligation to continue the legacy of greatness we've inherited. We do that by creating positive, unique stories within our own lives. I say everyday that In order for Black History To Live, We Must Continue To Breathe Life Into It -- that's the message we need to give our children.

Please use this website as a source of information and inspiration.  It is my sincere hope that this will be a useful tool that  will help anyone interested in promoting and teaching Black History and Culture, more effectively. Encourage your family, friends and associates to visit, too. I've tried to create a virtual forum that will get you EXCITED ABOUT BLACK HISTORY and enable you to Channel That Excitement Into Positive Action That Will Enhance Your Life.

In the words of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, "The mere imparting of information is not education. Above all things, the effort must result in making a man think and do for himself."

Again, THANK YOU for your interest in BLACK IN TIME ENTERPRISES. We value your patronage and look forward to hearing from and serving you.

Peace & Blessings,

Hugh Gaddy, Jr.

365 Days of Black Facts Calendar

Jamaal Brown Created the

www.BLACK365.US

 Calendar to Inspire

Black3651.jpg

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2010) - Jamaal Brown once believed that the only thing African Americans could be were athletes, drug-dealers, gang members or entertainers. He eventually put all of his eggs in the athletics basket; however, he was diagnosed with a rare heart condition and forced to have heart surgery while still in high school.

No longer spending time on the court, Brown began cataloguing what he considered to be the most inspiring and uplifting facts in Black history, along with the dates they occurred. Little did he know then, that his actions would be inspiring, uplifting and encouraging thousands of people across the country in the form of a 365 Days of Black Facts Calendar, found at www.Black365.US

Brown, became his high school’s first-ever African American valedictorian, was accepted to eight universities and received nearly $50,000 in scholarships. He credits the inspiration he received from the information in the 365 Days of Black Facts Calendar found at www.Black365.US as “being miraculous for me, and helping me succeed both inside and outside the classroom.”

Many others feel the energy from this 365 Days of Black Facts Calendar. Principals throughout the Palmdale School District in California read the Black fact of the day featured in the BLACK365.US Calendar over the loud speaker during the morning announcements. The district’s superintendent knows the information within the BLACK365.US Calendar is contributing to the growing success of his students.

Black Fathers Radio, Black Teen Empowerment Radio, Black Home Schools Magazine, and a large number of organizations throughout the country have all endorsed the BLACK365.US Calendar.

The calendar is also a great fundraising opportunity for youth organizations, churches, non-profits, and even individuals to earn extra income. A portion of the proceeds from the calendar support a scholarship for deserving high school and college students.

Can We Regain Our Trust in “Buying Black”?

by Aishah Jeffries-El

Over the years, I’ve noticed that interest among African Americans in supporting Black owned businesses has not significantly improved. Many of the same complaints continue to surface as to why we are still apprehensive in supporting one another, so I would like to share the major ones with you in hopes of reducing those concerns.

  1. Poor customer service is the number one complaint that we have about one another (i.e., when you enter into a Black owned establishment and the owner is on the telephone or assisting another customer, they don't acknowledge you to let you know that they see you and will be with you shortly. You are made to feel like they are doing you a favor by waiting on you).

  2. Cost of products or services can be more expensive than other businesses (based on an individual’s priorities they may not feel the product or the service is worth the price).

  3. Web sites don’t have contact information or the links don't work (i.e. I found a Black owned restaurant on the Internet and when I went to their Web site they didn't have a telephone number, address or e-mail information anywhere on the site. Fortunately, I was able to get their telephone number by “Googling,” so I called, didn't get an answer, left a message and one week later no one had returned my call.

  4. Black hair salons — There was an article a few months back about how Black women are increasingly going to Dominican salons to get their hair done. I personally know a few people who are doing that and their reasons aren't necessarily because they feel Dominicans do a better job. They cited things like they are cheaper, better organized and they get you out fast.

  5. We don't know any Black owned businesses in our neighborhood. This is a big reason why Black owned businesses don't get supported, because we simply don't know they exist. Outside of beauty salons, barbershops, restaurants and daycare, how many other Black owned businesses in your neighborhood can you name? A large number of small businesses don't have big budgets for marketing and advertising to help get the word out.

Because of the “trust issues” that we have with each other as a community, African American business owners have no choice but to work harder than other ethnic groups to win the support of Black people, so here are some solutions:

  1. Provide EXCELLENT customer service – go “above and beyond” to make the customer feel that you are grateful to have them in your place of business (when a customer enters your place of business, greet them with a smile, ask them what they need and if you cannot help them, try to refer them to someone who can).

  2. Make sure your Web site has ample information about your products, your service and location (if you have a traditional brick and mortar store).

  3. If you operate a restaurant, why not have several clear photos of the exterior and interior of your establishment and photos of some of the dishes on your menu to help entice people to come visit your store?

  4. Don’t be afraid to include prices so that customers know right away if they can afford your product or service.

  5. If your only contact information is via e-mail, make sure to check your e-mails frequently and respond ASAP.

  6. Presentation of store and/or Web site should be visually appealing:

    • Store should be clean and organized with nicely painted walls and polished floors.

  7. If your store hours say that you are open at 9 a.m. then you should be in the store before 9 a.m. (I remember at one company that I used to work for, the supervisor told us that if your shift starts at 5:30 p.m., that does not mean come in the door at 5:30 p.m. It means be at your desk and ready to work by 5:30 p.m.)

  8. A Web site is a necessity these days because it's the fastest and simplest way to locate a business.

Unfortunately, we tend to remember our negative experiences more than we recall the positive ones. Therefore, we, as Black business owners will have to work harder and more creatively in order to persuade people in our community to overcome their reservations and regain their confidence in BUYING BLACK.

So hopefully this can teach children the real names of the cartoon animals they love. "

"I believe that we (Black People) can start a new movement that is based upon coupleship building, with living example as President Obama, and his wife, Michelle. They prove that two can move better than one.

The Spiritual Conspiracy

An ingenious idea was dreamt up in the 1940's. So we may imagine that it came from the HEADS of the Lucifer culture which is vastly different from the Supreme Being culture.

In order to stop and destroy the positive culture legacy (which is past onto the future generation), with its interconnection to womankind, and femininity, the HEADS of the Lucifer culture realized that humankind must not be given information on the two pulsations inside of the human spirit (love/hate).

Here, in 2010, it is now easy to understand the plague-ridden minds of the HEADS of the Lucifer culture. The conception of understanding spiritual relationships between man and
women, the family unit and neighbors, womenfolks and pets, individuals and nature, adult males and mother earth, the softer sex and the universe, the humans race and religion is
nowadays, a lost art form to our youth.

To learn the make-up, and nature of the next identity of the human sprit please e-mail: Theodis.jackson60@yahoo.com, who is organizing, financing, and managing the new
HEADS of the Supreme Being culture."

"Some of the pictures are pictures of some of our trips to the country to play other clubs. David and many others volunteer their time. Trainings are from M-Fridays. The kids are from as young as preschool age to those in their 20's. Since the fiasco, some of the kids have not come back which has been sad. Most of the kids come on their own and do not have their immediate parents to take care of them as some are in situations where they are still looking for their parents in their home countries so most will be living with aunts of uncles and grandparents..."

"Australia from what I know so far does not have any humanitarian policies set in place.

I also know the statistics from Indigenous kids and kids of various ethnic backgrounds entering any sports is so low. Last I know is that David Yohan told me that the La Trobe University did some research ont his and apparently the stats are so poor. There is so much talent but alot of the time financal circumstances will not allow this kids to pursue a sporting career let alone the sporting body that governs who goes or not. As you can see majority of a sporting athelets from Australia are white Australians. Kathy Freeman our Olympian is one of a very minute % of ethnic and indigenous kids making it...."

"The site that people can have a look at is PAWES.com.au It has information on our organization which is a community base and non profit organization. The founder of the group is David Yohan, his story in itself is a so interesting. I became a involved with the group from the beginning. We recently sat through a hearing and all we got was nothing but everyone avoiding the issue of discrimination. No one wanted to touch on the topic of discrimination and skirted around the main issue. We await the outcome of the last hearing in two weeks.

"We the minister for multi cultural affairs and our local MP coming hope to see more including teams from other clubs who will be coming for the day. "

We get our support from govt. grants and donations. All those involved are basically volunteers...

This weekend is our community Basketball day and we will give a shout out to your Blog. I'm known as Aunty Irene to the kids and to David. My letter to the tribunal about institutionalized racism was miscontrude by the media and so the team copped alot from the media. There is also an australian white supremist site that has called the kids monkeys and all. We have faced so much here since we were banned from Brisbane Basketball Inc who are also in with Brisbane Basketball Australia."

Thank you again,

Unitee Design-National Black Teen Expo

“The greatest resource for our communities of children, teens and young adults is all of us.”

The National Black TEEN Empowerment Expo (NBTEE) is building a national youth movement, community by community, to collectively discuss, determine and deliver better ways to reach and teach today’s young generation.  We believe our strength in numbers will also mean social, economic and political power that can help our children’s needs be a greater fulfilled priority.

Youth Movements are coalitions of concerned citizens and committed groups working together to improve the quality of life and learning for (and with) our children, teens and young adults.

New youth movements are now underway in Brooklyn, NY, New Jersey and Baltimore.  In 2011, we will form youth movements in other NYC boroughs, and in Atlanta, Texas and California.

Here are September’s youth movement events:

The Better Detroit Youth Movement and Infinite Scholars proudly present The 2nd Annual Detroit Scholarship Fair (on September 22nd, 2010).

About $30 million was awarded to junior and senior high school students throughout Southeast Michigan at last year’s fair.

The 1st Brooklyn Teen Hall Meeting (on September 24th) will provide a powerful forum for our young men and women to share with us some of the challenges they face, let them know and see there is a caring and concerned audience of community committed to help them rise above and overcome some of these challenges.  This monthly event also provides us a wonderful opportunity to consistently connect participating youth to vital resources that can help better their tomorrows and brighten their futures.

The 1st Brooklyn Youth Resource Summit (on September 30th) and The 1st Greater Hudson County (NJ) Youth Resource Summit (on September 29th) will engage and assemble a community of youth service providers around one table so we can discuss, determine and collectively deliver better ways to reach and teach today’s young generation.

M.A.P.S. 4 TEENS:   New York City’s First Teen Newspaper

The NBTEE has just signed a publisher’s agreement with IQ, Inc., to produce and distribute M.A.P.S. 4 TEENS (M4T), New York City’s first TEEN newspaper.

Being billed as a “Lifestyle & Resource Publication to Successfully Guide Our Young Generation”, M4T’s fresh and hip layout is designed to visually appeal to our TEENS and young adults.  More importantly, it will deliver a variety of valuable information, events, programs, activities and opportunities to help them succeed in school and life.

More than 25,000 copies of M4T will be distributed throughout NYC each month (and we’ll reach many more online readers via a digital version).

Most M4T articles will be designed and written by TEENS, for TEENS.

Each edition will promote the good works of great groups in NYC that provide important services to our youth.

M4T will also spotlight fashion designers, artists and musicians, and highlight the wonderful works of our creative (graphic and web design) community.

We’re seeking graphic and web designers who can volunteer to help us with this project.  And we’re also extending great ways for businesses, corporations and organizations to support M4T and, thus, directly contribute to improving the quality of living and learning for our young generation.

If you’d like more information about M4T, the NBTEE or youth movements, please call 734.395.3079, or email us at info@nbtee.org.

Join us for live, lively conversation, special guests -- and very special teens -- on The Black TEEN Empowerment Radio Show every Sunday, 3:00 p.m EST.  Listen in any time at www.blacktalkradionetwork.com.

Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia by Patricia Neely-Dorsey

Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia: A Life in Poems

My book Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia is a true celebration of the  south and things southern. Using childhood memories, personal thoughts and dreams, I attempt to give a positive glimpse into the southern way of life. There are so many negative connotations   associated with Mississippi and the south in general. I want to show a flip side of the coin. There is much to love about this much maligned and misunderstood part of our country. I would really love for you to get to KNOW Mississippi (and the south) in a different light and I want to introduce you. I invite you to Meet Mississippi Through Poetry, Prose and the written word.

Thank you for stopping by my site and showing an interest in my "little book of southern poems"

Rene Rawls-Screenwriter

By OLU ALEMORU, Staff Writer

A local writer poised to break out into the mainstream has had a weekend to remember with the scheduled debut of a short work that celebrates one of her heroes.

Tribeca Film Institute: Sule and the Case of the Tiny Sparks

Florida-born Rene Rawls, who lives in the historic West Adams district of Los Angeles, wrote and produced “Sule and the Case of the Tiny Sparks,” an animated short that celebrates the life of Nelson Mandela in “making an imprint to change the world around them.”

The film is one of five entries chosen last year for a competition sponsored by 46664, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and New York’s Tribeca Film Institute’s Tribeca All Access program, which awarded five $10,000 grants for short film concepts to mark the first annual Mandela Day Tribeca All Access Award.

Taken from Mandela’s prison number, 46664 is an initiative to inspire individual and collective action towards an AIDS-free world.

The entries were uploaded to the Tribeca website Monday, a day after Mandela celebrated his 92nd birthday on July 18.

The short introduces Sule as a young Sherlock Holmes, a wise and brash African child who helps other kids solve their problems and learn life’s lessons through the meaning of proverbs.

Rawls, who has optioned a feature script, “Homecoming Queen,” slated to begin production this year, teamed up with twin animation directors, Shawnee and Shawnelle Gibbs, an Oakland-born duo who she met through the Organization of Black Screenwriters.

“We met up with Rene in October and she asked us if we would be interested in working on the project,” said Shawnee. “The story of this tiny little detective was such a cool idea. There are few stories set in Africa. It’s a really inspiring, positive message.”

She added: “After seeing our reels and bios, they approved us and we started gathering a team of artists to work on the character designs, storyboards and animation.

“We only had a few months to get it done, but we were blown away by the team’s work.”

Meanwhile, Rawls, a recipient of the renowned Guy Hanks and Marvin Miller Screenwriting Fellowship, has also traveled to various cities across the country teaching screenwriting and filmmaking to high school students.

“I found out about the competition this time last year and immediately knew I would submit something because I have so much love and respect for Nelson Mandela,” said Rawls, who has an English degree from Hampton University and a graduate degree in communications from Georgia State University.

“I used to teach high school English and one of my favorite books to teach was [Nigerian author Chinua Achebe’s] ‘Things Fall Apart,’ a book full of proverbs. I’d talk to my students about proverbs and they would get the meanings. One student came to class one day and said, ‘Yeah, we’re proverb slayers.’ That stuck in my mind, and two or three years later I birthed this character Sule, a young proverb detective and initially did a picture book. Then, when I heard about the competition I knew he’d be right for the story.”

Taking to her laptop, Rawls wrote the script in an 11-hour writing session and then traveled to Florida to see her mother.

“I got an e-mail notification and instead of the ‘Thanks for entering your work,’ it said, ‘Congratulations, your script has been chosen,’” recalled Rawls.

“I was jumping up and down and screaming. But my mother was like, ‘Just give thanks to the Lord, baby.’”

To get the look and feel of an African village, Rawls drew on a trip she made to Ghana and also ran it by a Nigerian friend.

“For me the main theme of the story is to do what you can and that may influence others,” added Rawls.

"I Did It Nanna's Way"

I DID IT NANNA'S WAY

 I Did It Nanna's Way
When Carly was six, her father walked out. When she was ten, her mother left. It is Nanna who steps in and raises Carly and her sister, Lissa. Come into the world of a 13-year-old girl who strives to be a teenager with values and integrity, while facing the joys and pains of adolescence—peer pressure, class politics, unpredictable relationships, and intense competition. Readers will be able to relate to Carly, as she struggles to have a life filled with meaning and purpose.
Carly Finds Out
Carly Finds Out
Although Carly’s mom left when she was ten, she continues to expect her mom’s return. Having led a sheltered life with her sister, under the guidance of her protective Nanna, Carly is introduced to a new life--high school. In this book, Rena Roberts Shipp allows readers to peer into a realistic view of Carly’s life, her feelings, and experiences as she asserts her adolescent independence.
Rena Roberts Shipp, born and raised in Cleveland County, North Carolina, received her bachelor’sdegree from HBCU Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. After teaching sixth grade language arts in local schools for three years, she settled in Tappahannock, VA
with her husband and son.
The deep interest in children’s well-being that made Rena a gifted teacher made her also a lifelong learner. She taught full-time while completing a master’s degree in education from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA with emphasis in reading, and then earned credentials in counseling and administration. (Click to read more)

The We The People Education and Community Investment Project

The "We The People Education and Community Investment Project" is named for a poem (titled We The People) that has encouraged and warmed the hearts of many. It was written by our founder, Mozell Fleming, who although never had the financial help to receive higher education, has decided to dedicate his efforts to providing financial resources for our children, our schools and community.

A special edition of this poem is available on this site. In celebration of our national launch we are inviting you to become an exclusive partner and member of the project and help us -pay the price- by sowing into our children, our future. You can join us in our efforts by ordering directly from this site or by contacting us to order these 13x19 posters in bulk amounts as a fundraising tool for your specific needs ( minimum bulk orders start at $350.00 in price and 100 units in quantity).

Our participants are set to raise thousands of dollars by investing in these unique posters and selling them at their own retail value or you can simply display them as artwork in your home, office or institution. Not only will you be helping yourselves, but also you will be investing into the education of our young bright minds and the growth of our communities as we will develop a funding pool for scholarships and other community needs. Please contact us for more information about our project. Thank you for your consideration and participation!

Seeing Heaven in the Face of Black Men

Love prayers and greetings
Tod

Seeing Heaven in the Face of Black Men takes a unique look at the day to day realities that must be faced before America can become “post racial.”

Focusing on the Black/White divide, it calls for a profound and dramatic transformation of consciousness on the part of both groups. It challenges them (and all of us) to examine what it calls “the practicality of spirituality” as the vehicle for such transformation.

Spirituality, as defined in this book, is not necessarily connected to a particular religious affiliation. It is an inner quality and depth of consciousness that realizes interconnectedness with all humanity. When drawn upon it impels us to act from our noble self.  It also provides the strength to transform (not deny) the emotional pain and anger associated with race, into the motivation, will and strength to build unity and justice.

Too often we admire that ability in others, yet fail to choose it for ourselves.

The image of “heaven” is the very opposite of how Black men have been viewed historically.  Therefore when (US) Americans expect to, want to and see heaven i.e.: dignity, honor, strength and beauty, in the face of Black men, a profound milestone will have been reached in this country’s journey toward racial unity and justice.

We need only recall the universal reaction, this nation’s election of a President of African descent had, to get a glimpse of the influence such a demonstrable transformation of consciousness and behavior can have on the entire world.

There’s still work to be done.

Read this book and let’s get on with it!

Urban-American-Success.Com, a self-help site

“Comin’ up as a nigga in the cash game, livin’ in the fast lane, I’m for real.” – Tupac Amaru Shakur

Logo.jpg

Urban-American-Success.Com, a self-help site, is for all the “for real” folks, the everyday, “on the grind”, “gotta hustle”, “tryin’ to make a dollar outta fifteen cents” folks.

This site is for the urban Americans who are, have been, or might get, caught-up in the cash game, livin’ in the fast lane, and are looking for a level of success that, so far, has been hard to attain.

The cash game forces people to do work that they hate and to live miserable lives. It drives the drug trade and the pimp and prostitution professions in every state. It moves the unscrupulous to theft, burglary, robbery, and violence. It causes the old, the ill, and the infirm, to work when they should be resting.

It’s the sparkle in the bling, the glitter of the gold, the chrome on the rims, and the swagger in the stride. It’s sometimes the pride, and sometimes the wanna-be, but, it’s always a trap. And, it leads far too many urban Americans (especially those of color) to incarceration and a cycle of revolving prison terms, frustration and poor decisions.
The cash game is the illusion that money is more than a tool, that money is sustenance itself, “bread,” “cheese,” “cheddar,” etc.

It’s the addiction that plays on our fear of poverty, illness, and old age. It motivates us to trade the bulk of our time on earth (or at least the best years of our strength and vitality), the bulk of our thought and energy, and sometimes our right to be free, for food, shelter and the hope of security at some point in the future, or worse—and far too often—for the notoriety and feeling of power that cash can temporarily provide.

It’s the urgency that pulls the trigger or thrusts the knife. It’s the crimson stain on the floor in the projects, and on the corner down the block. It’s the grime on the blue collar, the anxiety inside the power suit, the premature gray hairs, the short meal breaks, the long hours and the lack of time off.

The urban American cash game is alive and well, and it’s being played out in every city in the country. It’s being played out in every home where there is more month than money, more debt than assets, where due bills must go unpaid, and fear governs spending.

This site is for all the urban Americans who hate the game, not the player, and are looking for a serious, nonthreatening, self-help path to success. If you are willing to reconsider what you have believed until now, how you think, why you do what you do, and what you are willing to pursue in order to have what you want, then this site may be for you.

Urban-American-Success.com is a self-help site for personal development, based in the principles of universal law. Through the use of these laws, yours can be an urban American success story.

PantsHangingDown.com

Hello Mrs. Gosier.  How are you? This is Gene Stubbson, author of Pants Hanging Down.  We communicated through the BLackPlanet site initially.  Congrats on your book.  I wanted to send you the info you asked about  including a photo of my book.  Your interest in my actual subject matter was noted.  Sorry about the "N-Word" incidents that you experienced.  Unfortunately, those were far too common back then which is why we must be smarter about our approach now.  With subjects such as these, you can easily find an instance to interject me and my book since that is what I discuss in my presentations which are designed to encourage "people" to think and do better.  Please feel free to contact me here or call me with questions and comments.  Congrats.  God Bless.

As we face the potential of our nation's first Black President, are there lessons we can learn from South Africa?

Download file

This is a historic moment...In fact each day becomes more important than the day prior.

As U read the above article which was written anoynmously approximately 1 year after the democratic election of Nelson Mandela, can we learn from some of the stated oversights?

Do WE consistently seem to sacrifice true freedom for material posturing or as the kids would say "bling-blinging"?

We are witnessing a SEASON that we should have been and should continue to PREPARE. GOD IS GOOD!
